About Arizex Plus

Arizex Plus , is a centrally acting reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Its main therapeutic use is in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease where it is used to increase cortical acetylcholine. Arizex Plus is postulated to exert its therapeutic effect by enhancing cholinergic function. This is accomplished by increasing the concentration of acetylcholine through reversible inhibition of its hydrolysis by acetylcholinesterase. If this proposed mechanism of action is correct, Arizex Plus effect may lessen as the disease process advances and fewer cholinergic neurons remain functionally intact. Arizex Plus has been tested in other cognitive disorders including Lewy body dementia and vascular dementia, but it is not currently approved for these indications. Arizex Plus has also been studied in patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment, schizophrenia, attention deficit disorder, post-coronary bypass cognitive impairment, cognitive impairment associated with multiple sclerosis, and Down syndrome.

HOW SHOULD I USE ARIZEX Plus?

Use Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• An extra patient leaflet is available with Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information.
• Take Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets by mouth in the evening right before you go to bed unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Take Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets by mouth with or without food.
• Be sure your hands are completely dry before you handle Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets.
• Gently remove the tablet from the blister package. Place the tablet on the tongue and allow to dissolve. Drink a glass of water after the tablet has dissolved. Do NOT swallow Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets whole.
• Take Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it.
• Taking Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets at the same time each day will help you remember to take it.
• Continue to take Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
• If you miss a dose of Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. Contact your doctor if you miss several doses (7 or more days) of Arizex Plus orally disintegrating tablets. You may need to restart your medicine at a lower dose to avoid side effects.

Arizex Plus dosage

Dosing In Mild To Moderate Alzheimer’s Disease

The recommended starting dosage of Arizex Plus is 5 mg administered once per day in the evening, just prior to retiring. The maximum recommended dosage of Arizex Plus in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease is 10 mg per day. A dose of 10 mg should not be administered until patients have been on a daily dose of 5mg for 4 to 6 weeks.

Dosing In Moderate To Severe Alzheimer’s Disease

The recommended starting dosage of Arizex Plus is 5 mg administered once per day in the evening, just prior to retiring. The maximum recommended dosage of Arizex Plus in patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease is 23 mg per day. A dose of 10 mg should not be administered until patients have been on a daily dose of 5 mg for 4 to 6 weeks. A dose of 23 mg per day should not be administered until patients have been on a daily dose of 10 mg for at least 3 months.

Administration Information

Arizex Plus should be taken in the evening, just prior to retiring. Arizex Plus can be taken with or without food.

The Arizex Plus 23 mg tablet should not be split, crushed, or chewed.

Allow Arizex Plus to dissolve on the tongue and follow with water.

Storage

Store at controlled room temperature, 15ºC to 30ºC (59ºF to 86ºF).
